NCD calls representative for Special Public Committee

Dimapur, July 14 (MExN): Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has asked for submission of name of representative from respective hoho, organization for induction in Special Public Committee to study and research taxation/extortion/antisocial/etc problems for onward submission to Government for concrete and sustainable preventive measures as per July 6, 2011 public resolution. The representatives are asked as per discussed and approved in July 6, 2011 public meeting at Chakhesang Conference hall, Dimapur hoho.
Mention may be made that citizens of Dimapur, common man and business community alike, have borne the brunt of extortion/taxation/antisocial activities and disturbance of various nature since about two decades and in ascending magnitude of late. Meetings were held and resolutions adapted to battle disturbances countless times in the past, yet with no respite or tangible results. It is common knowledge that Dimapurians have been the most victimized section owing to the fact that as the sole thriving commercial centre, Dimapur is considered most fertile hunting ground by antisocial elements of various hues, stated NCD, President, Savi Liegise.
The July 6, 2011 public meeting is nothing new but a continuation of the attempt to give platform to public to air grievances over the continuity of antisocial activities and to discuss means and methods to evolve a mechanism to deal with the prevalent menace in order to establish a sustainable peace which is the cry of the people.
The Council also informed that while deputing the representative to the Committee, ensure following criteria which is considered important for the success of the Committee: member must be well-versed with regular happenings in Dimapur; fully endorsed and approved by the sending Hoho/Organization and a person of integrity, sincerity and willing to sacrifice time and energy. The major purpose of the Committee being researching and compiling a comprehensive recommendation, it is tentatively aimed at completing the job within September 2011 after which it shall revert back to seek public approval either to disband or continue based on utility of the said body.
The Council has therefore requested to submit name of the representative to the Naga Council Office on or before July 25, 2011.
 
Purpose of Special Public Committee
 
  • To study/research cause(s) of said antisocial activities of various natures.
  • To study/evolve a sustainable mechanism or method considered favorable towards scaling down the level of public disturbance if not to eradicate.
  • To submit to Government a comprehensive report or recommendation as part of public contribution towards building a more congenial atmosphere in promotion of peace/economic ventures so essential in the commercial hub, and to urge the authorities to act upon it.
  • To achieve above objectives, the Committee is required to meet at regular intervals, collect public opinion and coordinate with concerned officials/authorities, etc.
  • Compilation of Comprehensive recommendation shall stand to be approved through a public meeting to be convened at appropriate time.
