Dimapur, May 5 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) on Wednesday appealed to the Kuki and Tangkhul communities to immediately shun violence and confrontation, cautioning that continued conflict would lead the region down a “path of self-destruction.”
In a statement issued here by NCD President G K Rengma and General Secretary Peter Anal, the council urged Christian tribal leaders from both sides to embrace dialogue to restore peace and harmony amid the escalating conflict in Manipur.
“The mayhem in Manipur that was ignited three years ago continues to escalate among communities, fuelled by hate and prejudice, with subjective narratives where truth and objectivity are the casualties,” NCD said.
The council recalled its mediatory and reconciliatory role during the spill-over violence of the Kuki-Naga conflict in Peren district during the 1990s, and affirmed its commitment to continue spreading the message of peace, restitution, and reconciliation based on Christian values and principles.
The NCD made a fervent appeal to “the conscience of all right-thinking citizens and leaders of the affected communities” to rise to the urgent need of the hour for the sake of humanity and future generations, calling for the complete cessation of the vicious cycle of ethnic violence.
