KOHIMA (MExN): Top ranking officials of the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) today reiterated its earlier stand that the commission would go ahead with the Nagaland Civil Service (NCS) Mains examination on August 20 as scheduled. This information was confirmed to The Morung Express by NPSC Secretary K. Nzimongo Ngullie.

In a related development aspiring candidates for the NCS exams were unanimous that the scheduled examinations on August 20 should remain as it is and stood against postponement again in any manner. One candidate speaking to this correspondent said the current impasse had hurt the sentiments of hardworking candidates. To give legitimacy to their demand NCS candidates on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Governor Shyamal Datta demanding the NCS exams be held on August 20 as scheduled.

“We have submitted the memorandum to the Governor on Wednesday and copies were also endorsed to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Secretary NPSC, Naga Students Federation including all local dailies”, a candidate told The Morung Express.

While welcoming the process of rooting out corruption prevalent in the Commission’s office, aspiring candidates were however aggrieved that their plight were not taken into account by the concerned authorities and student’s body. “The frequent and abrupt change of examination schedule has affected our enthusiasm in many ways”, another candidate said further adding that there was growing resentment over the issue particularly from those candidates coming from outside the State to appear for the exams. Expressing fear and apprehension if exams were deferred again, most candidates said they would feel demoralized. “Further postponement of the exam will not be compromised under any circumstances”, cautioned one candidate who did not want to be named.

Meanwhile, the NPSC on Thursday resumed its normal office function with the first phase of agitation launched by NSF from July 18 ending on Wednesday, July 27.

”Normal function has started after 10 days of picketing of the office by NSF”, said Ngullie.

Mention may also be made that the NSF on Wednesday mellowed down its tone saying that the NPSC had partially met with their demands but reiterated that it has decided to stick with the demands served.

The ongoing agitation of the Naga Students Federation (NSF) and the scandal in the NPSC have put the candidates into a dilemma as they fear the prospect of further postponement if the present impasse continues. It may be mentioned that candidates selected to sit for the coming mains exam had held a series of meeting here at the local ground on July 19 and July 23. During the second meeting on July 23 the candidates took the unanimous decision to draw the attention of Nagaland Governor, Shyamal Datta, to look into their grievances.
