Kohima, May 19 (MExN): Accusing the Power department of having awarded contract work to an unregistered name, the Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers Union (NCSU) Kohima has sought clarification from the department for not observing the necessary tender formalities, terming it a total violation of a government standing order.
Stating that the head office in Kohima had received information through RTI, the NCSU alleged that the Power department had awarded the Hydro Project, Doyang Stage III, IV, V, VI, and the Tulo Mini Hydro Project “involving several crores of rupees” to a firm called NEEP, Dimapur. This, they stated, was done without observing the necessary tender formalities and despite the Union insisting, “time and again”, that all departments strictly follow the government order that all contract and supply works should be open tender and awarded to NCSU cardholders only.
Besides questioning the award of tender to NEEP, Dimapur, for preparation of PFR & DPR for the two Projects, the NCSU, in a press release issued by its president, Pele Khezhie, and general secretary John Kath, alleged that while “the DPR is yet to be submitted by M/S-NEEP”, the department had already obtained loan from NABARD for execution of the two mentioned Projects. It was alleged that the fund has already been released to the department “during March 2009 for execution of the Project while DPR is still under preparation”.
The NCSU further stated that it felt compelled to seek clarification from the concerned department regarding the utilisation of the amount received for the above projects, and on the credibility and credentials of M/S-NEEP, Dimapur.
