Dimapur, September 27 (MExN): The Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers Union (NCSU) are lamenting that “many departments are not cooperating with the union” while ‘non-local and non-NCSU’ contractors get major contracts.
A note from the NCSU received here said that the contractors under the union are only too willing to work with the government “for development and betterment of our state.” However, the union aid, “in several occasion many departments are not cooperating with the union and award most of the major contract work to non-local and non-NCSU members by depriving of local contractors with the political power undermining the government standing order…” the note stated. The contractors referred to government orders issued during 1985 that all contract and supply work in Nagaland should be awarded only to ‘NCSU identity card-holder.’
“In every platform, government machineries used to slogan that special privileges will be given to local contractors but in reality it is far behind to fulfill the promises,” the union lamented. The NCSU appeals to the government departments to strictly implement the orders and award contract and supply works only to NCSU members to avert confrontations.
The union also appealed to all its units to check all ongoing or fresh contracts and supply works in their respective areas and inform its head office with evaluation reports. The union is to tour all the districts for election of the district units’ NCSU, the note added.
