Kohima, February 10 (DIPR): Nagaland observed the launching programme of National Deworming Day (NDD) at TM Government Higher Secondary School Kohima on February 10.
Principal Director cum Mission Director NHM, Health & Family Welfare Nagaland, Dr. Sukhato A. Sema addressing the programme said that the government will surely initiate and work among the children from the age group of 1 to 19 years and ensure that their health is improved and they have easy excess to their studies. He said that allied departments like Health & Family Welfare, School Education, PHED and the Village Council will work together for the wellbeing of the children and urged the people of the State to join hands together in nurturing our children.
Health & Family Welfare Director (H), Dr. N. Mhabemo Kithan in his keynote address said NDD is a single day event observed through the platform of schools and anganwadi centres all over the country. The main objective of NDD is to de-worm all pre-school and school age children, either enrolled and non-enrolled, between the ages of 1-19 years in order to improve their overall health, nutritional status access to education and quality of life.
On the major activities on NDD, Kithan in his briefing stated that in schools, the teachers will administer 1 (one) albendazole tablet to all school enrolled children and in Anganwadi centers the workers will administer Albendazole tablet to all children of 2-5 years and record the same in the register. Children between 1-2 years will be given half a dose of Albendazole tablets while awareness generation activities at community level will be done to mobilize school children by ASHA. National De-worming day (NDD) target beneficiaries include; children enrolled in government schools, private schools, pre-school children registered at Anganwadi centers, pre- school children not registered with Anganwadis and school age children who are out of school.
Technical Officer from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India, Diksha Chaudhury who also spoke in the launching programme of NDD said that in 6 union territories and 30 States all over India, the Government of India is concentrating in maintaining the life of the children as they are the future of the country and the government is giving priority to the children and students to reduce the worming problem in their health. Diksha Chaudhury said that launching of this deworming day is to give quality of life to the children all over India.
Principal T.M. Government Higher Secondary School Kohima, Avino Tase chaired the function. State Programme Officer (RCH) Dr. Bendangla Longkumer proposed the vote of thanks. Around 500 students from TM Government Higher Secondary School and around along with the Health & Family Welfare officials attended the programme.
Longleng: Longleng District observed NDD on February 10, at Good Shepherd School. The programme was chaired by Taula Phom, School Health Coordinator. Dr. Imtiwabang Aier, DPO (RCH/UIP) gave a brief introduction on the importance of De-worming in children and also said children who have worms suffers from symptoms of fatigue, malnutrition, anemia and can have impaired physical and mental development in the long run.
Children from 1-9 years of age were provided Albendazole tablet in both Government and Private Schools; the respective Anganwadi Centres- Tamlu and Longleng block is undergoing the De-worming process. The Schools and Aganwadi Centres under the aegis of Chief Medical Office, Longleng will initiate the mop-up round for non-enrolled children on February 15.
Wokha: NDD was observed at the District on February 10. Robin Lotha Deputy Commissioner launched the programme amidst officials from the allied department. On the very onset, Dr. Enrithung Chief Medical Officer welcomed the members present at the function.
Dr. Tumchobeni Dy Chief Medical Officer highlighted on the observation of the Deworming Day. She urged the Officials from the allied Departments to extend their support and co-operation to make sure that all children get the right dose of the deworming tablets to improve their overall mental and physical health. Albendazole Tablets are issued to the schools and the Anganwadi workers to deworm the children between the age of 1-19 years at the District. Members present at the launching programme were DWO, CDPOs, SDEO, MOs and DPO (DAPCU)
Tuensang: The district Health Society under Chief Medical Office Tuensang held the launching of NDD at St. Joseph School, Tuensang on February 10. The programme was launch by CMO, Dr.T. Pangjung Sangtam in the presence of Dr. Temsu Longchar, DPO (RCHUIP) and staffs of CMO Office. The programme will cover children from 1-18 years for De-worming in the district. The CMO appreciated the school authority and appeal the general public for further cooperation.
Mokokchung: Along with the rest of the State, Mokokchung district observed the NDD in all the 6 (six) projects. Albendazole Tablets (400 mg) were administered to all 1-5 yrs children registered in the Anganwadi Centres and the same was administered to school boys and girls from 6-19yrs. The Mob Up Day (MUD) will be on February 15 for all those who were left out on 10th February 2016.
