Kohima, September 5 (MExN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has issued a clarification in response to a news item published on September 5 in a local daily regarding an alleged NDPP-NPF merger.
In a statement, the NDPP said the proposal was brought forward to the President and the Party only on September 2. “The Party is yet to meet and discuss this and therefore, the NDPP till date has under no equivocal terms ‘cleared the decks to effect the merger’,” it stated.
The party maintained that as a political party registered and recognized by the Election Commission of India (ECI), it is governed by its Constitution and the process of democracy. “Therefore, since the proposal was made only recently, a meeting of the Central Executive Board (CEB) of the NDPP will be convened soon, where the matter will be discussed and taken forward democratically as mandated under the NDPP Constitution,” it added.
The NDPP further requested that “till such time an official decision of the NDPP is issued, all speculations and doubts be kindly laid to rest.”
