To call general convention before final decision
Kohima, September 12 (MExN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) said on September 12 that it has welcomed the offer extended by the Naga People’s Front (NPF) but will take a final decision only after following all constitutional and democratic procedures laid down in its own rules.
In a press statement, the NDPP Media & Communication Committee said the party’s Central Executive Board (CEB) met at its headquarters in Kohima on September 12 to deliberate on the resolutions adopted by the NPF’s Central Executive Council and a letter of offer from the NPF’s secretary general addressed to the NDPP president.
The statement said NDPP legislators, through Minister G. Kaito Aye, informed the CEB that the party’s Parliamentary Board had already welcomed the offer from the NPF. After detailed explanations by NDPP President Chingwang Konyak, Chief Minister and NDPP Parliamentary Board Convener Neiphiu Rio, and Secretary General Abu Metha, the members formally welcomed the offer.
However, the NDPP said it is a registered and recognized political party under the Election Commission of India and must “follow and fulfill all constitutional and democratic procedures mandated in the NDPP Constitution.” Accordingly, the CEB decided to convene a General Convention of the party under its prescribed constitutional provisions, where the final decision on the NPF offer will be taken.
The meeting, chaired by Metha, was attended by members of the NDPP Central Executive Board, presidents of all central frontal organizations, conveners of central committees, and presidents, working presidents and general secretaries of all regions. The CEB unanimously endorsed the president and the chief minister to take all necessary decisions regarding the General Convention, the statement added.
