NDRF carries out awareness programmes in Nagaland

The NDRF with representatives from the district administration, GBs, DBs and officials from the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) at Kohima Local Ground, where Community Awareness programme on First Responder was carried out.
 
Kohima, December 29 (MExN): A company of the 01 Bn NDRF is here in Nagaland carrying out community awareness programmes as part of its annual activities. Today the NDRF led by Asst. Comdt. Anil Shekhawat carried out an awareness programme with the public at the Kohima Local ground. The programme was attended by representatives from the district administration, GBs, DBs and representatives from the 19 wards of Kohima. The NDRF displayed search and rescue techniques and also basic first aid.
A press note received here mentioned that the NDRF has been in the state since December 15 and has carried out awareness programmes in Thizama village, Chephobozou and Sedzu Zubza. All these programmes have been carried out in collaboration with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department and the District Administration.
The NDRF is a specialized force especially trained to handle any kind of man made or natural disasters. Currently the country has nine battalions of the NDRF, drawn out of the CRPF, CISF and the ITBP. The 01 Bn is the first battalion formed and posted in Guwahati. In recent times the NDRF has distinguished itself through its expert services during the Sikkim earthquake. The NDRF has also rendered its valuable service in the Tsunami that shook Japan this year. The 01 NDRF battalion based in Guwahati travels the length and breadth of the entire North East in its effort to spread awareness and sensitize the general public on disaster management.
Following in the footsteps of the NDRF, Nagaland is also in the process of raising a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). This is being initiated through the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department. The SDRF is being drawn from the IRB, a company each from the 9th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th IR. Currently two companies have been trained and further trainings will begin from the first week of February.
