Kohima, April 29 (MExN): A one day orientation and discussion was convened by Nagaland Education Project – The Lighthouse – NECTAR for the facilitation of knowledge sharing and coordination among all sister departments under the Department of School Education & SCERT on the key initiatives and expected outcomes under the ‘Strengthening Governance and capacity building’ component of the project.
A press release received here stated that the event was conducted at ATI, Kohima on April 29.
Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, Principal Director, Directorate of School Education delivered the welcome address, emphasising that the workshop was a shared commitment to improving education quality in Nagaland.
He highlighted that the ‘Strengthening Governance and capacity building’ component under NECTAR was possibly the largest component in terms of stakeholder engagement across departmentslike School Education, NBSE, SCERT, and Samagra Shiksha. The component encompasses capacity building of teachers, school leaders and education managers, community strengthening, and addressing governance and career management within the department.
He urged stakeholders to actively engage, lead discussions, and focus on sustaining reforms and best practices under the ‘Strengthening Governance and Capacity Building’ initiative.
The keynote address was delivered by Kevileno Angami, Commissioner & Secretary, School Education & SCERT. She described it as a privilege for all participants gathered to discuss issues central to everyone’s heart; highlighting that the meeting was long overdue, she emphasised the common objective of all departments: fostering holistic school development, nurturing children, and providing quality education to prepare them for a rapidly changing global landscape.
She emphasises the sister departments to complement and supplement each other work and to prevent duplication and overlapto achieve the common objective i.e. holistic development of a child and quality education.
The workshop included an introduction to the NECTAR initiatives, an overview of the Strengthening Governance and Capacity Building component, group discussions on progress and sustainability, testimonials on programs like the School Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) and the School Review and Improvement Programme (SRIP), review of career pathways, revision of SMC/SMDC guidelines and Exam Reforms among others.
Officials from the Department of School Education (DSE), Directorate of School Education (DoSE), State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Samagra Shiksha, and NECTAR attended the workshop.
