Noting the steady disappearance of various traditional and indigenous talents of the Naga people, Vikheho Swu, Minister for Roads & Bridges on Thursday encouraged reviving of Naga handicrafts and rearing of Mithun on a large scale.
Speaking as chief guest at the 15th annual session of Sakipheto Range Students’ Union (SRSU) at Alato village, the Minister said that the most challenging thing that Naga people were facing today was “self sustenance.” He pointed out that people of Sakipheto area were geographically placed at a rich spot with the National Highway passing through their area. “Such location gives you ample opportunity to try out various avenues for self sustenance and reliance,” he said and rue that the opportunity was not explored to the maximum.
Expressing happiness to be attending the students’ programme, Vikheho observed that Naga people give immense importance to activities of student bodies but that the student leaders were lacking in managing their unions/associations. “Many people become student leaders to earn undue source of income but that will not make you a leader for tomorrow. So we must choose the right path,” he advised the gathering.
Vikheho also spoke about time management as a critical aspect in a student’s life and urged them to utilize their time judiciously.
During the programme, various villages and students’ unions under Sakipheto Range presented cultural items and special song. On Friday, Kaholi Z. Wotsa, Advocate will be the speaker in the morning session. The annual session will culminate Friday evening with a bonfire and prize distribution.
