Neibodzelie Solo, Councillor of PWD Panchayat Ward-11, has been elected as the Chairperson of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), while Thenusou Sekhose Yhome has been elected as the Deputy Chairperson.

The election was held at the DC Office, Kohima, under the provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023. Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem announced the results and congratulated the newly elected leaders, expressing confidence in their ability to strengthen urban governance and civic administration.

Following the election, the new leadership outlined key priorities, focusing on addressing urban infrastructure gaps and promoting community-oriented initiatives. They reaffirmed their commitment to serving the citizens of Kohima and ensuring inclusive development.

Addressing the media, the leaders acknowledged that internal challenges are part of democratic functioning but stated that such issues have been resolved with party support, paving the way for a balanced and united approach.

A major concern highlighted was the non-payment of salaries to KMC staff for the past six months.

The leadership attributed this to limited revenue generation, particularly following the closure of tollgate collections.

They also noted challenges related to limited assets and assured that efforts are underway to enhance revenue generation.

Meanwhile, Metekhrielie Mejura, President of NPF 9 Kohima Assembly Constituency, extended congratulations to the newly elected leadership and all councillors.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing members and called for unity across party lines for the welfare of the people.

The newly elected leaders expressed confidence in moving forward with unity, accountability, and a renewed focus on development and improved civic services in Kohima.
