North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) observed the 79th Independence Day of India at the Peace Centre on Friday.

CHÜMOUKEDIMA, AUGUST 15 (MExN): North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) observed the 79th Independence Day of India at the Peace Centre here on Friday.
The programme, organised under the aegis of the Electoral Literacy Club, Students Council for Social Change, and the NSS Unit of NEISSR.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Fr Mathew Thuniampral, Counsellor and Member of the Governing Board, NEISSR paid tribute to national leaders Mahatma Gandhi, Rani Lakshmibai, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He said freedom was both a legacy of sacrifices made by past generations and a responsibility for every citizen.
Emphasising the role of youth in nation building, he urged the student community to uphold constitutional and democratic values, ethical integrity, social accountability, and environmental stewardship, while addressing challenges such as inequality, corruption, and ecological degradation.
The National Flag was unfurled by Dr Fr Mathew Thuniampral, followed by the National Anthem.
In continuation of the day’s patriotic spirit and in view of the 6th National Social Work Week, the Students Council for Social Change organised an environment and health cleanliness drive within the college premises.
