Tenyebinlo Himb kicks off the 11th Annual Sports Meet of NEISSR with the ceremonial first kick at the institute campus in Chümoukedima on October 27.
Chümoukedima, October 27 (MExN): The Northeast Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) inaugurated its three-day 11th Annual Sports Meet at its campus in Chümoukedima on October 27 under the theme “Strength in Unity, Power in Play.”
Addressing the inaugural function as Special Guest, Tenyebinlo Himb, Press Secretary to the Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Nagaland, urged students to look inward and take collective responsibility in shaping a progressive society.
“It is high time we stop blaming our leaders and instead retrospect on ourselves to find solutions to the challenges within our society,” Himb stated.
He underscored the importance of sincerity and humility, pointing out that “we often share good Bible verses on our social media pages, yet quickly judge others.” He encouraged the gathering to cultivate gratitude and mindfulness, saying that positive change begins with appreciating “the small good things around us.”
Calling for unity beyond divisions, Himb appealed to the students to “do away with the ‘isms’ prevalent in our society” and to stand together in mutual respect and understanding.
Touching upon the influence of modern technology, he cautioned the younger generation against living dual lives—one online and another in reality. “Be who you are. Use social media as an inspiration, not imitation,” he said, adding that the real power lies within each individual to “either create or destroy.”
He further urged students to foster a mindset of self-confidence and contentment, reminding them that “not everyone can be a winner, but all can strive to become better.”
Himb also called upon educators to lead by example and serve as role models, while encouraging students to value and honour their parents for their sacrifices and dedication in raising them to be responsible members of society.
The inaugural function was chaired by Finance Secretary (SCSC) Bilu Lohe. Invocation was pronounced by EU President NEISSR Awa Khing, while the keynote address was delivered by Games and Sports Secretary Lilo Chishi. A special song was presented by BSW 1st semester student Zipise.
Cultural Secretary (SCSC) Vishili Sakhamo delivered the vote of thanks, and the programme concluded with a special prayer and benediction by Vice Principal NEISSR, Fr G L Khing.
