NEUFB condoles demise of four youth in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, February 1 (MExN): The North-East United Forum Bengaluru (NEUFB) on February 1 has condole the demise of four male workers from Lakhimpur district of Assam, who were found dead under mysterious circumstances in a rented room at Hoskote in eastern Bengaluru.

In a condolence message, the Forum informed that the deceased, who belonged to the Mising community, were employed at a Coca-Cola warehouse and had been working through Excessive Warehouse for the past three months. They were identified as Dhananjoy Taid (22), son of Bhula Taid; Nirendra Nath Taid (23), son of Joyram Taid; Doctor Taid (19), son of Taniram Taid; and Jayanta Chintey (23), son of Khayeshram Chintey.

Preliminary post-mortem findings indicated the presence of high levels of carbon monoxide in all four bodies. Medical authorities suspect that the deaths may have occurred due to inhalation of carbon monoxide in a closed room with inadequate ventilation. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the final post-mortem reports are received, the update stated.

The Government of Assam is extending assistance to the bereaved families. The mortal remains were transported from Bengaluru to Assam on February 1 in accordance with airline protocols, with two bodies flown at 6 am and the remaining two at 11 am.

According to preliminary ground-level inputs, residents in the vicinity reportedly stated that no external gas leakage was noticed. However, a vessel of rice was found left cooking on a gas stove, which is suspected to have burned for a prolonged period, leading to the accumulation of smoke and carbon monoxide inside the closed room.

It is suspected that the occupants may have fallen asleep without switching off the stove, resulting in fatal suffocation. At the time of discovery, two of the deceased were found seated, while two were lying on the floor.

Preliminary information further indicated that the individuals had consumed food earlier in the evening and that one of the deceased had a video call with his wife around 10 pm and appeared normal.

The bodies were reportedly discovered around 10.30 pm by a fifth roommate who returned from duty.

Authorities, however, clarified that these observations are unverified and form part of preliminary inputs only.

Police said an investigation is underway and all aspects are being examined. Further details will be shared as official findings become available.
