Neurosurgeons needed in Nagaland

S Solomon Shaikh
Dimapur

It shocking to note here that the state of Nagaland doesn't have a single neurosurgeon. During critical accidents with regard to major head injuries the critical patient/s has to be transported to Guwahati either by ambulance which is the only mode available for the common populace and for VIPs it is as usual; either by chopper or chartered flight to the referred hospital/s in Guwahati; the nearest place where major head injury patients are operated and further treatment provided.

Often during the transportation phase the patient succumbs.

Why for major head injuries critical patients are transported to neighbouring state? We don't have Neurosurgeons in Nagaland and that is the only available answer. It is a matter of serious concern.

It is shocking but it also gives shrieking and wailing overtunes to the family concerned. Many families have lost their near and dear ones.

As per report one young doctor will be available after he completes his training. It may take a year; rest assured.

Nagaland is a developing state and it is expected that Shri Neiphiu Rio the people's CM should take serious note of such happenings and it is expected that the health department will be provided with Neurosurgeons to be stationed in all the districts of Nagaland.

The Samaritan Young administrator Mr. Himato Zhimomi Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare is requested to kindly take up the matter on a war footing to provide Neurosurgeons on a hire basis in few selected hospitals in Nagaland.

It is noteworthy to mention here that due to the presence of a visiting Samaritan Neurosurgeon from Chennai in Faith Hospital Dimapur, a student who met with a major head injury was operated at the most critical phase or else the very patient was supposed to be transported to Guwahati. His condition was critical and he wouldn't have survived the 6 hour journey to Guwahati. Dr. Simeon was assisted by Dr. Arrvind of Faith Hospital and it was a life saving operation.

Generally such major head injuries patient/s is transported but with the divine intervention the boy was saved.

Dear CM Sir Nagaland is developing at a fast pace under your leadership and we expect your benevolent government to seriously introspect on this issue too. I am hoping that under your leadership Nagaland will attain excellence in the field of health and medical advancements in line with tourism too.
