Kohima | February 21 : Jubilation was doing the round within the camp of New Minister’s Hill, Kohima following the inauguration of Government Primary School here this morning. This newly created GPS, (Class I to V) was formally inaugurated by Zaveyi Nyekha, District Education Officer, Kohima at the function held at the New Minister’s Hill Panchayat Hall in the presence of several dignitaries including Z. Lohe, political advisor to Chief Minister of Nagaland.
Speaking on the occasion, Nyekha asserted that with the opening of the school, it is the duty of the colony people to send their children to this school. “It is everyone responsibility to take care of the school,” he said, adding “we all are peon, chowkidar to protect the school.” Referring to Right to Education (RTE) Act, he called upon the residents to send children to the educational institutions and further sought cooperation from one and all so as to run the school in better way.
DEO also assured that an amount of rupees 4 lakh will be released towards construction of the school building. Four more teachers will be appointed. NMH Panchayat chairman Shurho Solo was appreciative of the government for opening the GPS in the colony and looks forward continuous support from the government for effective running of the school. Theyievilie, ADC (DMA) SSA, Kohima in his speech highlighted the various packages under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and assured that this scheme will also touch this newly established school soon. He expressed the hope that the community and the school education department would work hand in hand together to get full benefit of the scheme. Also touching on communitization, he said that it is the responsibility of the community to actively involve in the process of education in the society.
SIS Kohima also briefed the gathering on Mid-Day Meal facilities, which is being provided to all government schools upto elementary stage. NMH panchayat general secretary Ako strongly believed that the newly established school would impart quality education and enable the children to become a responsible citizen tomorrow. WEC member Heirang Lungalang also requested the department to give special attention to this school. He also gave an assurance to the department that the NMH colony would bring/enroll more students to this school. Earlier, the function was chaired by WEC chainman Lima Imsong.
