A new traffic plan to ease the traffic congestion and to enhance the level of civic sense among the vehicle users of Pfutsero town was launched on July 5. This traffic plan is an endeavour of Pfutsero Town Council, Pfutsero Police and Administration.
A symbolic flag-off was done by Nagaland’s Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu. Speaking on the occasion, Kronu called upon the vehicle users to maintain discipline and punctuality and see that traffic rules and regulation is strictly followed.
He assured to assist the administration and police in whatever possible manner for proper traffic management within
Pfutsero town. Kronu called upon the concerned to remove/clear the abandoned vehicles on the roadsides. He assured to take up the repair works of the town road before Christmas.
Further, he sought the cooperation of the public to make Pfutsero as one of the most beautiful and cleanest towns in the state.
Pfutsero Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Japheth Woch said that the new traffic plan will be implemented with immediate effect. He thanked the Pfutsero SDPO Khuzah Jurry and others for their active involvement in this new traffic plan.
Pfutsero EAC Dr Riku Khutso stated that a joint survey of the town roads/traffic management was conducted in May this year to prepare a new traffic plan of Pfutsero Town as traffic congestion has been a matter of concern.
New traffic plan
Some of the problems causing congestion includes; increasing number of vehicles and transit vehicles crossing the town, haphazard parking and violation of traffic rules by drivers across the town, parking of immobile/abandoned vehicles on the roadsides, dumping of construction materials on the roads, Cylinder outlet, local taxi stand at main town Traffic Point.
Therefore, in the interest of the public and as a measure to improve traffic management, a new traffic plan has been proposed.
All the inbound vehicles coming from Kohima shall be diverted via NST to Main town from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Heavy vehicles (trucks) on transit shall take the NH-29 (Kohima-Jessami Road) via NST-Mission-Reku road at all times.
The road from Post Office Traffic Point connecting NH29 via Cooperative bank shall be made one way for outbound vehicles only, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
There will be only one side parking from Post Office Traffic Point to NH29 via Cooperative Bank from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
No parking for vehicles from Post Office Traffic Point to Lt. Khusoyi's residence approach road from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Parking allocations
In this traffic plan, it also made parking for local taxi, pick up or tata mobile and two wheelers.
Local Taxi Stand I: Near Main Town SBI Traffic Point along the NH 29 towards Mission Colony (As Marked).
Taxi Stand II: Near Post Office Traffic Point towards Pfutsero Sports Complex (As Marked).
New Local Taxi Stands at Army Camp Junction, PWD Tri Junction and NST Station have been designated
Pick-Up/Tata Mobile Parking I: Along the NH 29 towards Mission Colony next to Local Taxi Stand I.
Pick-Up/Tata Mobile Parking II: Post Office Traffic Point towards Pfutsero Sports Complex next to Local Taxi Stand II (As Marked).
Only one Side Parking shall be allowed in the town area as marked.
Two Wheeler Parking I: Near SBI Traffic Point (As Marked).
Two Wheeler Parking II: Near Post Office Traffic Point (As Marked).
Distribution of gas cylinders at Therie Gas Agency shall be shifted to GHSS road ncar Pfutsero Sports Complex.
Other roadside restrictions
All construction materials lying by the roadsides in town arena must be cleared within 48 hours. No construction materials shall be allowed to be left on the roadside for more than 48 hours. Defaulters shall be penalized with fines, the new traffic plan stated.
No abandoned vehicles shall be allowed to be parked on the roadsides anywhere within the town.
All the local taxis operating in Pfutsero town area and coming to Pfutsero Town from nearby areas shall have to mandatorily seek temporary permit from the office of the ADC, Pfutsero and shall be marked as 'Local Taxi's as a measure of regulation.
Heavy vehicles like trucks and busses shall not be allowed to enter town area from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM from Monday to Saturday without permission.
Meanwhile, the town dwellers are discouraged to bring vehicles to town for non-essential works.
The shop-owners have also been asked not to park their vehicles in the town area during peak hours.
Traffic rules violation/offence shall be penalized with fine of Rs 500, for first offence, Rs 1000 for second offence and termination of Driving Licence of the driver and shall be booked as offence under Motor Vehicle Act 1988 on the third offence.
