
Dimapur, April 1 (MExN): The Department of Agriculture, government of Tripura in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology & All India People Science Network, government of India had conducted a workshop on “Emerging Challenges in Agriculture and Allied Sectors in North Eastern Region” from March 27 to 29, 2011 at Agartala, Tripura.
A press note issued by Achamo Kikon, press secretary, Youth Wing NFA informed that Manya Sipong, president, H.Z Mangyang, secretary general and K. Satem Chang assistant secretary were the representatives from Naga Farming Association. Organically produced crops from Nagaland were exhibited in the workshop, especially the huge size of Nadia Ginger was said to have evoked a lot of interest to the people of North Eastern region. The representatives were also asked for a live demonstration on cultivation methods at the Horticulture Research Station Agartala. The workshop came up with a road map for promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the North East. It was also decided that a separate workshop will be held in June 2011 on shifting cultivation and to develop Jhum.
The note further mentioned that after the workshop, a meeting was held with all the leaders of All India Kisan Sabha. The Chief Minister of Tripura also invited the Naga Farming Association representatives from Nagaland for an exclusive meeting where MP and Ministers were present also. In the long hour meeting, the Chief Minister showed keen interest in the activities of NFA and initiatives taken by the Nagaland government. It was also mentioned that as per the resolution adopted on March 15, 2011 by the board members, the nomenclature of Eastern Farming Association had changed to “Naga Farming Association”.
