NFHRCC-led Khelma visit concludes; adopts resolutions

Dimapur, April 24 (MExN): The NFHRCC has impressed upon the State Government to expedite process of obtaining formal approval from the MoRTH, Government of India for upgradation of Foothills road into a mega Project and rechristening it as the Trans Nagaland Expressway.

The committee also acknowledged the initiative of the State Government under Chief Minister Nephiu Rio and the Dy. CM Y Patton, once again,  for taking up the issue, while urging for getting the approval “at the earliest” from the Union Ministry of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). 

A resolution regarding the same was adopted at the meetings held with tribal leaders in Jalukie Town, Athibung, Ikesingram Village and Khelma Township respectively during the Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) - led tour of Khelma, under Peren district, the last end-point of the proposed Foothills Road Connectivity, from Tizit on April 22-23.

The visiting team comprised of NFHRCC members along with representatives from the CNTC, ENPUD, CNSA, DENSU and the Young Nagas Action Committee on Foothills Road. 

In another resolution, the committee appealed all the responsible PMGSY Schemes Contractor firms to complete the time-bound works, synchronised along with the aligned Foothills Roads in all the districts, as scheduled “without compromising with the quality workmanship.”

All the respective village and tribal authorities were further urged to cooperate with the State government and the implementing agencies in accordance with the Detailed Project Reports of the works schemes and ensure that no internal and external forces disturb the momentum of works.

The NFHRCC also appealed the State Government not to divert any leftover funds from Rs 20 crore allocated for the ongoing works to make the Foothills road ‘motorable’  till the project is successfully completed at the stipulated timeframe.

It also urged the State Government to deploy all the proposed governmental personnel including the administrative and police, to Khelma Administrative circle at the earliest.

The NFHRCC further acknowledged the Nagaland Zeliang People's Organisation (NZPO) and the villagers in and around Khelma and Ikesingram for hospitalities extended to the visiting team as well as all tribal frontier bodies for their unflinching support extended to the Committee in ‘making the Naga Survival road a people’s movement.’
