Maligaon, June 28 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has commissioned a 345 kWp on-grid rooftop solar power plant at the Agartala Coaching Depot as part of its efforts to promote renewable energy and develop eco-friendly railway infrastructure.

The project has been implemented to harness solar energy by optimising available rooftop space, in line with Indian Railways' commitment to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

According to NFR, the solar power system is generating more electricity than the building currently consumes, making the facility a net positive energy building.

The surplus power generated during daytime is being exported to the grid, contributing to green energy generation while reducing dependence on conventional sources of electricity.

Railway officials said the project is expected to result in significant savings in energy costs, lower peak demand dependency and reduce carbon emissions and the overall carbon footprint.

The commissioning of the rooftop solar plant is part of Northeast Frontier Railway's ongoing initiatives to adopt clean energy solutions and enhance energy efficiency across its network, contributing to the national objective of a greener and cleaner future.
