NFR freight loading rises 4.5 per cent in August
Maligaon, September 10 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded freight loading of 0.957 million tonnes (MT) in August 2026, registering a 4.5% increase over the 0.916 MT loaded during the same month last year. The cumulative freight loading from April to August 2026 stood at 5.09 MT, up 6.5% from the 4.78 MT recorded during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
Cement loading more than doubled during August, reaching 0.13 MT and registering a 106.6% increase over August 2025. Loading of miscellaneous commodities, including fruits, vegetables and timber, grew by 92.3%, while coal and dolomite loading increased by 54.5% and 46.4%, respectively. Foodgrain loading rose by 39.6%, while container traffic and fertiliser loading increased by 6.3% and 3.7%, respectively, during the month.
For the April-August period, cement recorded the highest growth at 161.9%, followed by miscellaneous commodities at 44.6%. Dolomite loading increased by 34.2%, coal by 7.5% and container traffic by 7.1% over the corresponding period of the previous year.
NFR said the growth reflected its efforts to improve operational efficiency, strengthen coordination with freight customers and facilitate timely transportation of essential commodities. It added that it would continue to expand its freight traffic base and provide reliable transportation services across the region.
