NFR GM holds review meeting with Members of Parliament

Maligaon, January 24 (MExN): The General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava held a review meeting with the Members of Parliament whose constituencies are served by Alipurduar and Katihar divisions of NF Railway at Siliguri on January 24. 

MPs from West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Sikkim were present in the discussion. The MPs present included MPs of Lok Sabha Tariq Anwar (Katihar), Rajesh Ranjan (Purnia), Pradeep Kumar Singh (Araria), Dr Jayanta Kumar Roy (Jalpaiguri); MPs of Rajya Sabha Dorjee Tshering Lepcha (Sikkim) and Nagendra Ray (West Bengal); MPs of Lok Sabha Md Rakibul Hussain (Dhubri), Manoj Tigga (Alipurduar), Kartick Chandra Paul (Raiganj) and Joyanta Basumatary (Kokrajhar).

Senior railway officials from Alipurduar, Katihar divisions of NF Railway and from Headquarters were also present in the meeting.

The General Manager while welcoming all MPs highlighted various ongoing developmental, new line and survey works being carried out by the NFR with specific reference to areas under Alipurduar and Katihar divisions. Suggestions and views from all the public representatives present were welcomed for further betterment of services and amenities. 

Shrivastava briefed the dignitaries about the numerous festival special trains that were operated for the devotees of the region. He also informed the members present about the Intrusion Detection System that has already been immensely successful in saving lives of many elephants approaching railway track from being hit by trains. GM mentioned about introduction of QR code machines at the ticket counters over NFR, to enable cashless transactions, in line with the vision of ‘Digital India’. 

MPs were also briefed about the status of on-going electrification, doubling and new line projects of Northeast. He mentioned about the various stations that are being redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in the region. 

The NFR Chief Public Relations Officer, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated in a press release that the MPs suggested extension and improvement of railway connectivity, passenger amenities and upgradation of stations etc. 

The GM stated that all the requests from the MPs for introduction of new services/stoppages will be looked into with due importance. He also stated that the suggestions and views offered by the Members would be reviewed with paramount importance while formulating the proposals.

Deliberations in this meeting would immensely help the Railways in finalizing the Railway developmental plans for the people of this region.
