Maligaon, June 22 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava on Monday conducted a comprehensive inspection of Kamakhya Railway Station to review preparedness and passenger management arrangements for the Ambubachi Mela being held from June 22 to 25.

The annual religious congregation is expected to attract a large number of devotees from across the country, prompting the Railways to put in place extensive operational and passenger facilitation measures.

During the inspection, Shrivastava reviewed facilities and arrangements made for the convenience, safety and security of pilgrims, including crowd management measures, passenger amenities, cleanliness, drinking water facilities, medical assistance, help desks and security deployment.

He also interacted with railway officials and staff deployed at the station and assessed operational readiness to handle the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the mela period.

The General Manager stressed the need for constant vigilance, effective crowd control and prompt assistance to passengers. He directed officials to remain alert, closely monitor passenger movement, maintain coordination with security agencies and civil authorities, and ensure smooth train operations throughout the festival period.

To manage the expected rush of pilgrims, NFR is operating several special unreserved train services connecting Kamakhya with key destinations across Assam and North Bengal. Additionally, the carrying capacity of several regular passenger trains has been temporarily enhanced to facilitate smooth travel for devotees during the mela.

Shrivastava also instructed officials to prioritise passenger safety, cleanliness and seamless service delivery, while ensuring adequate information and guidance are available to pilgrims arriving at and departing from Kamakhya Railway Station.

Northeast Frontier Railway stated that extensive arrangements have been made to facilitate the movement of devotees during the Ambubachi Mela and reaffirmed its commitment to providing passengers with a safe, comfortable and hassle-free travel experience.
