NFR introduces LHB coaches on Balurghat–Howrah Express

MALIGAON, MARCH 31 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway has introduced modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches on the Balurghat–Howrah Express, aiming to improve passenger safety and comfort, officials said Monday.

The upgraded train service was flagged off on Sunday at Balurghat Railway Station by Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region, and West Bengal MLA Budhrai Tudu, along with senior railway officials.

Majumdar said the initiative is part of a broader push by the central government to strengthen railway infrastructure in West Bengal. “The introduction of LHB coaches on trains originating from Balurghat will boost rail connectivity and drive socio-economic growth in the region,” he said at the event.

The LHB coaches, which replace older ICF coaches, offer a range of safety and comfort enhancements. Built with an anti-telescopic design to minimize damage during collisions, the coaches also feature advanced suspension systems for a smoother ride, higher speed capabilities, and improved interiors.
