NFR observes International Women’s Day

Guwahati, March 9 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) today observed International Women’s Day that with the theme ‘Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’ with participation of good numbers of employees, including general manager, Anshul Gupta along with other senior officials. 

During the occasion, outstanding women employees of different departments were awarded with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their performance and to inspire other women employees, an official release said. 

While addressing the occasion, Gupta appreciated all women employees who have been working dedicatedly in the field of sports, engineering maintenance, train operation, healthcare etc. 

The NFR has also taken steps for achieving equal gender representation in various sports activities like cycling, archery, table tennis, weight lifting etc, and the Zone’s women’s team is one of the best performing teams, he said. 

Due emphasis has also been given on women’s participation in the various fields, he added.

As per the release from NFR CPRO, gender equality has a big role to play in socio-economic development of an organisation and the nation and at NFR’s dedication towards women empowerment are illustrated by  all women gang in Coaching Depot, all women station, ‘Meri Saheli’ for safety of women passengers and so on. 

Sports-women of NFR have marked their dominance in the world stage and have made India proud including Popy Hazarika, N Lalita, Nirupama Devi, Sanjita Chanu (Weightlifting), Irom Matouleibi Devi, M Sonali Chanu (Cycling), Swapna Barman (Athletics) and Bhagyabati Kachari  (Boxing) among others, it added.
