NFR railway electrification underway

Maligaon, March 6 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) today informed of the execution of railway electrification work in various stages across different sections over NFR.

 

A press release from the NFR said the whole of NFR track including branch lines was sanctioned for 100% electrification in budget of 2017-18.

 

It also informed of some important trains of NFR running with electric loco from New Jalpaiguri and Katihar.

 

Electric train is also running in Katihar – Kumedpur – Old Malda – Malda Court section and New Jalpaiguri – Malda town section, the release said, while adding that with more progress, more trains will be converted to run with e-loco.

 

Cost of the entire electrification work in NFR is Rs 2,542.62 crs (approx), the release informed.

 

Sections from Raninagar Jalpaiguri to Sarupeta (259 track km) are being done by RVNL, while the rest of the portions are being implemented by CORE (Centre for Railway Electrification. The electrification work upto Guwahati is expected to be completed within this year, it added.

 

Some sections where funds for electrifications have been provided this year:

1.            Katihar-Barsoi-Guwahati section : Rs 140 cr

2.            Guwahati-Tinsukia-Dibrugarh & Simaluguri-Dibrugarh : Rs 228 cr

3.            New Bongaigaon-Goalpara-Kamakhya : Rs 87 cr

4.            Raninagar Jalpaiguri – Samuktala Road(2nd line) : Rs 13 cr

5.            Raninagar Jalpaiguri-Haldibari single line : Rs 30 cr

6.            Aluabari-Bagdogra-Siliguri Jn : Rs 69 cr

7.            Chaparmukh-Silghat Town : Rs 60 cr

8.            Katihar-Jogbani : Rs 100 cr

9.            Katihar-Teznarayanpur, Barsoi-Radhikapur, and Eklakhi-Balurghat sections : Rs 157 cr
