Maligaon, May 15 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway will observe World Environment Day 2026 through a series of awareness programmes and environmental protection activities across all its divisions and units from May 15 to June 5.
According to a press release issued by NFR, the theme for this year’s observance is “Climate Change,” focusing on environmental conservation, sustainable practices and collective responsibility towards protecting the planet for future generations.
The programme aims to promote environmental sustainability, cleanliness and conservation awareness among railway employees, passengers and the general public. Activities planned during the observance include plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, awareness rallies, seminars and eco-friendly initiatives across the NFR network.
The release stated that special emphasis will be placed on reducing plastic usage, maintaining cleanliness at railway stations and colonies, water conservation and promotion of green practices in railway operations. Railway officials, staff members, students and social organisations are expected to participate in the campaign.
Mass tree plantation drives will also be conducted at stations, railway colonies, offices, workshops and other railway premises as part of efforts to enhance green cover and encourage environmental responsibility.
NFR stated that it has consistently undertaken eco-friendly measures and remains committed towards sustainable and environment-friendly railway operations in the Northeast region.
The observance will conclude on June 5 with special programmes, awareness activities and administration of an environmental pledge across all divisions of NFR.
