Maligaon, September 5 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) maintained strong freight momentum in August 2026, unloading a total of 1,021 freight rakes across its operational zone, an official statement said on September 5.
The railway zone ensured uninterrupted transport and timely distribution of essential and industrial commodities, including food grains, food-grade items, fertilizers, sugar, coal, salt, tank wagon products, and various other goods handled at designated goods sheds.
A significant share of the freight traffic was dedicated to meeting the requirements of the northeastern states. Assam accounted for the highest volume with 560 rakes of essential and non-essential commodities, supporting public distribution systems, industrial operations, and consumer needs.
Among other northeastern states, Tripura unloaded 69 rakes, Manipur recorded 19, Nagaland 15, Arunachal Pradesh 8, and Mizoram received 6 rakes during the month.
Beyond the Northeast, states under the zone's operational network also recorded notable volumes, with West Bengal unloading 193 rakes and Bihar handling 151 rakes of essential and non-essential items, strengthening trade connectivity and regional supply chains.
The railway zone attributed the performance to effective monitoring at all operational tiers, which helped curb turnaround times and improve overall unloading efficiency to sustain regional economic activity.
