Maligaon, March 23 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken major upgradation works at the Railway Higher Secondary School in Maligaon to enhance infrastructure and academic facilities.

As part of the initiative, old classroom furniture across 19 classrooms from Classes I to XII has been completely replaced with new desks, benches, tables and chairs. Additional improvements include new furniture for the teachers’ common room, as well as upgraded library and staff areas with cabinets and a sofa set.

To boost digital learning, six smart boards have been installed in higher classes, while installation in remaining classes is underway.

The General Manager of NFR, along with senior officials, visited the school on March 20 to inspect the newly installed facilities and expressed satisfaction with the upgradation works.

Earlier, on February 20, the General Manager had inaugurated the fully renovated school. The renovation included construction of new classrooms, development of a playground, renovation of the entry gate and prayer hall, upgrading of toilets, installation of granite staircases, strengthening of the boundary wall, renovation of doors and windows, and construction of a new corridor.

The school has also been brought under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum from the earlier SEBA board with effect from 2024, aimed at improving academic standards and national-level competitiveness.

Despite being a railway-run institution, the school caters to both railway and non-railway students at nominal cost, including those from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. Currently, around 7 per cent of students are from railway families, while 93 per cent are non-railway students, reflecting its inclusive approach and growing popularity.
