Maligaon, January 22 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken a major upgrade of its Specialised Signal & Telecommunication Training Centre at Pandu, Maligaon, an official release informed today.
These upgrades include digitally enabled classrooms and full-scale models of the latest signalling technologies, such as Thick Web Switches with clamp-type point machines, Multi Section Digital Axle Counters (MSDAC), and more.
The upgradation, aimed at imparting state-of-the-art training and skill development to NFR employees, was inaugurated by NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava in the presence of other senior officers from the railway zone on January 22.
According to the release, railway signalling systems are critical for ensuring the safe operation of trains, and their reliability and maintenance directly affect the safety and punctuality of trains. Therefore, proper training and skill development of railway employees engaged in the maintenance of signals and telecom equipment are crucial, and the upgrades at the centre were carried out accordingly, it highlighted.
The NFR stated that the Thick Web Switch with clamp-type point machine enhances safety and reliability at points and crossings on railway tracks, as the clamp provides additional integrity to the switch and stock rail. Further, it also allows for the increase of sectional speed of trains to 160 km/h.
The MSDAC is a Safety Integrity Level (SIL4) equipment with advanced diagnostic features that increase reliability, as the system works in dual mode and can handle issues such as waterlogging in track-circuited areas. Meanwhile, the Internet Protocol Multiprotocol Label Switching will enhance communication speed with IP-based technology.
