DIMAPUR, January 19 (MExN): The Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation (NGBF) Peace Committee has appealed to the leadership of NSCN-K (Yung Ang) and NSCN-K (Ang Mai-Mulatonu) to end hostilities and reassess the direction of the Naga political movement in line with the aspirations of the Naga people.
In a statement, it called upon the leaderships of both groups to “retrospect and realign the Naga political movement in relation with the desire of the Naga people.”
It cautioned against continued internal violence, stating that “fratricidal encounters and killings among the Naga brothers is a tried and tested philosophy which has miserably failed the Naga people and the Naga political movement.”
Expressing solidarity with communities in the eastern region, the federation said it “expresses solidarity to our Naga brethren in the east and makes this fervent appeal to all apex tribal bodies across international border to ensure brotherhood loyalty to common Naga aspiration rises above personal grudges and factional politics.”
The committee also welcomed the joint appeal issued by Naga political groups on January 15, 2026, calling for cessation of hostilities between NSCN-K (Ang Mai-Mulatonu) and NSCN-K (Yung Ang) in Eastern Nagaland. It said the NGBF Peace Committee was “profoundly touched by the powerful joint appeal of the Naga political groups” and described the coordinated appeal as “the first of many landmarks for Nagas in 2026.”
The statement acknowledged the Naga national leaders from the NNPGs and NSCN (IM) who signed the January 15 press statement, naming N Kitovi Zhimomi, Rev Puni Mao, Karaibo Chawang, Isak Sumi, Alezo Venuh and P Tikhat Naga.
