NGOs dismayed by disbanding of LFA

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 31 (MExN): Several NGOs today issued a joint statement expressing dismay at the disbanding of the Legislature Forum on AIDS (LFA). A joint statement from 15 organisations said that the State is going through a “critical state” to tackle the issue of sex workers, surge in drug use, and Hepatitis-C co-infection.

“The LFA had shown a tremendous effort political will in the past and while progressing on the right direction, it was very tragic on the part of the State Government to abruptly disband the great mission, which will further alienate the participation of the elected lawmaker from the realities of HIV/AIDS and its associated issues,” the organizations stated. They asked the Nagaland Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues to reconsider the decision and restore “back the sanctity of the LFA and let each legislator command ownership of the issue without any partisan feelings.”

The statement was appended by Akimbo Society; Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre; Care Counseling Centre, Mokokchung; Care & Support Society, Mokokchung; Eureka Life Foundation, Phek; Grace Society, Changtongya; Guardian Angel; IBAPO, Kiphire; Jerimen Youth Society; Lightway Society, Pfutssero; Prodigal’s Home; Rural Area Foundation, Dimapur; Shansham Organisation, Mon; Yingli Mission Society, Longleng; and Zion Welfare Society, Baghty.
