NH-29: Even trees cling on!

A car passes by as a tree hangs upside down after getting caught in the safety net along the Tsiedukhru Range on the National Highway-29 Dimapur–Kohima four-lane project on December 1. Slope protection and rockfall barriers on this stretch have been under scrutiny in an ongoing suo motu PIL before the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench. During the November 26 hearing, the Court was informed that the DPR did not account for the entire area, leading to damage from debris falling above the managed zone. The NHIDCL has been directed to explain why works failed and why such factors were not foreseen in the form of an affidavit. On Monday, damaged barriers were seen at several locations, while renovation works were underway in some sections. (Morung Photo)
