DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 12 (MExN): The eighth edition of the Niathu Sports Festival 2025 concluded on Sunday with a grand closing ceremony at The Plaza, Zone Niathu by the Park. The event was attended by Nagaland Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla as the special guest, Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio as the chief host, and Lt Gen AS Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM, GOC 3 Corps, as the honoured guest. The programme was emceed by Imnasenla.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Bhalla described the festival as “not simply a competition, but a celebration of youth, health, and solidarity,” and praised the Niathu Group and Niathu Privilege Club for their commitment to promoting sports through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. He noted that over the years, the festival has turned Dimapur into a “vibrant meeting ground of athletic talent,” attracting participants from across India, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Goa, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, and other states.
Highlighting sports as a tool for unity and peace, Bhalla said, “Sports break down barriers, foster understanding, and teach us to resolve differences through respect rather than conflict.” He emphasized that the festival goes beyond medals and victories, focusing on nurturing young talent, promoting healthy lifestyles, and fostering a sense of community.
“Whether you return home with a medal or cherished memories—you are all winners. The true prize is the strength of character you have built,” the Governor said, urging participants to become “citizen athletes” by bringing the same discipline, fairness, and passion into their daily lives. He extended congratulations to the winners and expressed gratitude to organisers, sponsors, volunteers, and spectators who made the event a success.
The ceremony opened with a welcome address by Basu Damani, Festival Advisor, followed by a detailed tournament report presented by Khriemelie Metha of the Core Committee. A special musical performance by Vetho Rakho and Azi Rudy added vibrancy to the evening. Prize distribution was held for winners and participants across various sporting categories. The closing remarks were delivered by Festival Advisor Wati Jamir, who thanked all partners, participants, and supporters for making the festival successful.
