Niuland, June 11 (MExN): A three-day self-defence training programme for girls and women concluded at the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Stadium in Niuland on June 10.
The training, organised by the District Administration and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Niuland, under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, was conducted in collaboration with the Niuland District Pencak Silat Association.
Held from June 8 to 10, the programme was conducted by an elite team of instructors from the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association, all of whom are official Guinness World Record holders from Nagaland. The team was led by General Secretary and Head Coach of the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association, Deep Kumar, along with Vice-President H. Vikishe Chophy.
The training team also comprised decorated athletes Kevin, a national gold medallist; Kitenlo K Thono, an international silver medallist and national gold medallist; and Liike Kibami, a national gold medallist.
The programme aimed to equip young girls and women with practical self-defence skills through Pencak Silat while enhancing their confidence and awareness on personal safety under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.
The programme was chaired by S Boloka Jimo, SFL (DHEW). Deputy Commissioner of Niuland T L Kiusumong Tikhir, NCS, and Extra Assistant Commissioner Neisiezo Theunuo, NCS, attended the valedictory programme.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner commended the Niuland District Pencak Silat Association and the trainers for bringing world-class expertise to the district and urged the participants to become ambassadors of safety in their communities.
Certificates were presented to all participants who successfully completed the training.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Neisiezo Theunuo, NCS, EAC Niuland, who expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner, the Niuland District Pencak Silat Association, the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association, DHEW staff and all the participating girls for contributing to the success of the programme.
