The members of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly today paid homage to the passing away of Melhupra Vero and Z Obed.


After making obituary references by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, opposition leader TR Zeliang and NLA Speaker-in-charge Sharingain Longumer, the house observed 2 minute silence in remembrance of the departed souls.


Melhupra Vero

Expired on January 24, 2020 in Dimapur, the first Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) from among the Naga people, Late Vero was decorated with one of the highest civilian honors, Padma Shri in 2006 in recognition of his contributions in social service. He had served the society in different capacities as Member of Parliament (RS), Cabinet Minister of Nagaland, 1st President of Naga Hoho, etc. Nagas have lost a dedicated and sincere public leader, said Rio.


 
Z Obed, IAS

Retired Chief Secretary, Nagaland Z Obed, IAS passed away on January 30, 2020. He served under various capacities during the formative years of the State rising to the highest bureaucrat as Chief Secretary from 1980-1982 and 1987-1989. He also served as Cabinet Minister of the Government of Nagaland. He was full of enthusiasm to serve the people, efficient, straightforward and a visionary leader.
