NLA Speaker attends meeting on Uniform Legislative Rules

Kohima, May 15 (MExN): Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, accompanied by the Secretary of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and other officials, attended the first meeting of the “Committee of the Presiding Officers to frame the uniform Model of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of Legislative Bodies” held in Mysuru, Karnataka from May 11 to 13.

The meeting was chaired by Satish Mahana, who delivered the keynote address on the proposed Uniform Model Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.

According to a press release, the committee deliberated on the formulation of uniform rules of procedure and conduct of business for legislative bodies across the country. It resolved to seek the views and suggestions of Speakers of various State Legislative Assemblies before finalising its report for submission to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

The committee also decided that the Secretaries of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Nagaland would hold a separate meeting to examine areas where uniformity in rules could be implemented.

The next meeting of the committee is scheduled to be held in New Delhi.
