NMA demands strong action against criminals

Dimapur, January 3 (MExN): The Naga Mothers Association (NMA) has condemned the murder of Kevireizetuo Yhome by armed cadres of the NSCN-IM. The NMA said that it is “shocked and ashamed of the action of the mother who could instigate the killing of her own son.” In a statement issued by its President Abeiu Meru, the NMA demanded thorough investigation and the severest of punishment as per the law on all the accused NSCN-IM cadres and the mother who are under police custody.

“The NMA demands strong, punitive, speedy action from the law enforcing authorities to ensure justice to the victims of rape and cases of violence against women and children that has taken place during the past year in the state,” NMA stated in the press release.

The NMA also lamented the recent incidents of factional violence and killings in which innocent civilians were wounded. The Association said that threats to civil society leaders and rampant extortions are a matter of great concern. “It not only violates the Covenant of Reconciliation professed by the various groups, but has also brought another war to our doorsteps and our homes again during this season of Christian peace and forgiveness,” the NMA added.

The NMA has also appealed for peace and reconciliation, and an end to armed violence to enable an early and just solution of the Naga political issue which will determine our future and the future of our children. “We appeal to the leaders of the different groups of National workers to rein in their cadres by taking severe punitive action on wrongdoers and ensure that peace is restored in the interest of the People and the Naga Nation.”
