NMDA condemns drug trafficking by medical store owner

Dimapur, April 25 (MExN): The Nagaland Medicine Dealers Association (NDMA) has expressed anguish over the drug trafficking allegedly carried out by on Hassan Uddin alias Hasan Mamu, who runs shop in Murgi Patti area of Dimapur.

“We condemn such an act of illegal drug trafficking. We are confident that the law will take its own course of action,” stated a press release from the NDMA.

Meanwhile, the NDMA has directed all legal drug license holders those who have not registered themselves as members of the Association to immediately obtain the membership within 15 days.

The NMDA has time and again apprised the Government that the online pharmacies are main cause of drug trafficking as well as illegal drug transportation and anybody can get any psychotropic drugs with false prescriptions from any online drug agencies, the Association further stated.

It further pointed out that if any psychotropic or controlled drugs are sold, offline retailers maintain a sale or purchase register where as “online pharmacy has no accountability of their supply which is also a source of drug trafficking.”

Accordingly, it strongly urged the Government to stop the sales of online medicine business.

It must be noted here that on April 20, the Nagaland Police informed via a press statement that Hasan was arrested from Arunachal Pradesh in a joint operation by Nagaland Police along with Arunachal Police. Among others, he was accused of using the postal delivery system of India Post to send parcels of morphine from Dimapur to West Bengal.
