Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): The Naga National Council (Parent Body) today expressed gratitude to five countries for reportedly speaking out for the Nagas and the North-East people against the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) of the Government of India, in operation in the region since 1958.
A press release from the Information & Publicity Wing, NCC claimed that the five countries - Germany, USA, Norway, Belgium and Pakistan for raised and questioned the “Government of India on human rights violation with regards to the draconian law of AFSPA in the North-East region during the recent meeting of the United Nation Human Right’s Council (UNHRC) held in Geneva under the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on November 10, 2022.”
This inhuman Law was imposed by the so called biggest and largest democracy India upon the Nagas since 1958 and is prevailing till date, it said.
Calling it an “inhuman Law” imposed by the world’s largest democracy, the NNC stated that Nagas and the North-East people have condemned this law in toto time and again for a long time now, and so has other organisations, countries and even the UN voiced against the violation of human rights.
However, the GoI has never listened nor withdrawn this inhuman law from the region, it maintained. “Therefore those countries and the United Nations who stand true on international covenant on human rights must officially recognise the freedom of Nagas and the North-East as a people and nation,” it added.
