Dimapur, June 6 (MExN): The President of the NNC (Non Accordist) Gen. (Retd) I Panger Walling died last night at around 10:00 pm after brief illness at his village, Süngratsü in Mokokchung district. He was 87 years-old and is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters and 15 grandchildren. The last rite for the demised leader was conducted today, June 6 at his village.
In a condolence note received here, the NNC (N.A) members have expressed their grief over its leader’s demise. A note issued by Vice President Kiumukam stated: “…he was one among many Nagas patriotic who sacrificed his life and time for the Naga sovereignty leaving aside all his home problem to his beloved wife and children and worked for the Naga Nation to be a sovereign nation. He worked for the Naga Nation till he last his breathe and died at a ripe old age. The Naga nation will always remember his good deed for the days to come. The NNC (N.A) members conveyed condolence to solace the bereaved family members.”
Also in another note the Angami Regional Council NNC expressed regret that many leaders and friends were unable to attend late Panger’s funeral service. The note appended by its President Chosel Angami stated: “Rtd Gen Lt I Panger Walling had wholeheartedly sacrificed his tireless service towards Naga National movement which is noted down in history. The Angami Region further conveyed sincere condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that that the departed soul rest in peace.”
