
Dimapur, August 7 (MExN): The Naga National Council, Parent Body (NNC-PB), under the leadership of President Z Royim and Secretary General Akiuba Yimkhiung, has extended greetings to the Yimkhiung people and the entire Naga family on the occasion of the Metümnyo festival.
The sacred festival of Metümnyo, which began on August 6 and continues till August 8, is one of the most revered and meaningful celebrations of the Yimkhiung community, the NNC-Parent Body (Royim) stated in its message.
During the festival, the spirits of ancestors are honoured, surroundings are cleansed, new life is celebrated, and social and familial bonds are strengthened, the statement added.
Through rituals such as soul offerings, water cleansing, agricultural worship, and traditional engagement practices, the Yimkhiung people affirm their identity, values, and sense of belonging, it said.
To this end, the NNC-Parent Body (Royim) called for remembrance of the strength of forefathers, the richness of customs, and the importance of unity in the journey ahead.
“May this Metümnyo be a time of healing, reflection, and renewed commitment to our common future as a people. Let the spirit of Metümnyo inspire peace in our hearts, solidarity among our tribes, and hope for generations to come,” it added.
