History clearly shows that India has not understood the Naga people, our beliefs, our thinking, our values and customs; and our burning and legitimate desire for freedom and Naga Sovereignty. Even the most simple natural act of an elderly Naga leader and statesman to visit his native village after many decades, to meet his people and counsel with them is neither understood nor valued by the Indian government. Such arrogance and refusal to recognize and respect Naga rights and our way of life has been the cause of much suffering and turmoil in our land. This is at the core of the Naga issue.
At this very juncture the decision of the Government of India to prevent NSCN/GPRN Chairman Isak Chishi Swu and General Secretary Th. Muivah from visiting Zunheboto should be a wake-up call for all Nagas. This attitude of the Government of India is not an issue confined to only the concern group, it is a Naga issue and it must be censured by all. Today it has happened to one political group, tomorrow it can happen to another political group and the day after tomorrow it could happen to any ordinary Naga citizen. This policy to divide and humiliate the Naga people is reminding us that Nagas need to reconcile and unite together without any delay and to safe guard our historical and political rights; lest we all become victims of injustice and oppression.
The NNC/FGN strongly condemns the policy of the GoI to deny a person to move freely in one’s own Country or debar one from visiting ones place of birth. The NNC/FGN further appeals to all Naga political groups to respond to the call of Naga reconciliation. We can no longer allow external and internal forces to divide us anymore. It is time for the Naga Political Groups to come together under the banner of Naga Reconciliation and work together for the common cause of the Naga historical and political rights.
