NNC/FGN Rengma region response

The NNC/FGN Rengma Region had a meeting on July 24, 2010 at Tseminyu on the issue of the Th. Muivah’s message at Tseminyu Town during his visit to the Rengma Region on June 25, 2010, and decided to reply him with facts, participation and involvement of the Rengma region in the process of the Naga Independence Movement.

From the beginning, the Nagas are on Independence, Sovereign State, comprising of numerous regions. However, we call ourselves Eastern Tree Naga and Western Naga. The Rengma too, known as Eastern Rengma and Western Rengma. This is why the Nagas and Rengmas are neither Indian nor Burmese. Therefore the Western Nagas, under the leadership of NNC President A.Z Phizo and 99.9% voluntarily signed the Naga plebiscite on May 16, 1951 and presented a Naga Da-o to the Hoking Government of the Eastern Naga and the two merged to form the Federal Government of Nagaland. The Federal Government under the leadership of A.Z. Phizo hoisted the first Republic Flag of the NNC/ FGN on 22 March 1956, at Parashen, Rengma Region. From the inception of hoisting of the Republic Flag of the Federal Government of Nagaland till date, no Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste, High Caste, Low Caste, Big, Small, Major tribe, Minor tribe has been drafted, approved or inserted in the NNC/FGN Yezhabo. Therefore these terminologies are Anti Nagas and against the principal of the Naga Yezhabo.

The people of the Rengma region have been sacrificing and participating for the cause of Naga Independence in various capacities as under:

1. Rüsilo Rengma, a member of the signatories that submitted memorandum to the Simon Commission on 10th January 1929.
2. Whenha Rengma and Azuto Rengma were the first Naga club members.
3. P. Sentsin Rengma, the first joint secretary, Naga Hills District Tribal Council (NHDTC) in 1945.
4. P. Sentsin Rengma, the first Joint Secretary NNC and Whenha Rengma NNC member in 1946.
5. Rüsilo Rengma and P. Sentsin Rengma, the first Naga Independence Day Flag Hoisting member, hoisted on 14th August 1947.
6. Whenha Rengma, the first President of the Federal President of Nagaland (NNC) in 1956, before hoisting the Republic Flag.
7. Whenha Rengma, the first Ato Kilonser (Prime Minister) of the federal Government of Nagaland (NNC) on 12th July 1956.
8. Azuto Rengma, the First High Court Chairman of the Federal Government of Nagaland.
9. Kegwahi Rengma, the first Chaplin of the Naga Army, Federal Government of Nagaland in 1956.
10. Rev. Merhüpfü Rengma, the first Naga Army Head Chaplin, Federal Government of Nagaland in 1957.
11. Rev. Merhüpfü Rengma, Vice President, Federal Government of Nagaland in 1974.

Participation of the Rengma in the cause of Naga Independence from the beginning under the leadership of A.Z. Phizo under plebiscite of the Nagas joining Eastern and Western under the banner of the Federal Government of Nagaland. In order to hand over the Naga Problem to the United Nations (UN), a farewell to A.Z. Phizo was conducted in July 1956 at Phenshünyu, Rengma Region by reading St. John 14:14 (Bible). The leaders and believers blessed A.Z. Phizo and empowered him to go abroad to propagate and implement the wishes and aspiration of the Naga.

After the departure of A.Z Phizo to London, on one occasion when Rev. Merhüpfvü Rengma was leading a group of Federal Army to China, the Indian Army arrested them and imprisoned some of them in the Nowgonn Central Jail Assam. The Delhi Government offered cash, vehicles, land building and employment to his children if he sign the Shillong Accord in the name of the Federal Government of Nagaland. But he refused and replied to the delegates that the Shillong Accord was an agreement between the Government of India and Naga public self underground organization. The name and involvement by the NNC Federal Government of Nagaland does not arise in the Shillong Accord. He also said that he was a prisoner in jail and does not possess the power of authority, He asked the delegates to go to London and talk to the NNC President A.Z Phizo, for the Nagas have empowered him to act on behalf of the Nagas.

So far no leader of the Naga National Workers of the Rengma Region has done anything contrary to the Naga National Policy for (his) ones personal interest nor has any one been injured or killed or property damaged till date. No person under the banner of the Federal Republic Government of Nagaland Yezhabo in Rengma Region has renamed the underground organization nor is any person elected to the office not known to the Rengma Region.

Killing people in the name of Naga Yezhabo is an act of anti-Naga because a single Naga Life is worth hundred or thousand Indians or Burmese. We abide to the Naga Convention of saying “Yes” or “No” and nothing more. This article is a presentation of the Rengma Region of NNC/FGN in response to Th. Muivah’s message to the Rengmas.
