KOHIMA (MExN): The Nagaland Network for Positive People (NNP+), Kohima will send its representative for an international conference to be hosted by World Development Movement Agency (WDMA) at Washington, U.S.A from August 16 to 20. The conference will be on ‘Racism and Child Abuse’ under the theme “Building Resilience”. The NNP+ received invitation to attend this conference.

Rickato, the General Secretary of NNP+ will be leaving tomorrow for Washington.

He will be the only one from Nagaland to attend the conference, although it was informed that invitation was made open for about ten people from any NGO’s dealing on the conference theme. WDMA will be sponsoring Rickato’s visa and flight fare and one Dr. Susan Paxton, a treatment Activist and Director of Positive Response; Melbourne, Australia will be sponsoring his Accommodation and Registration.

Rickato, a recovering Drug Addict and a strong advocator in the campaign against HIV/AIDS says that this will be an opportunity to explore new avenues for him as it concerns ‘Stigma and discrimination’, which is closely linked with the problem faced by people living with HIV/AIDS. Asked on whether he will be conducting any workshop after he comes back, Rickato responded in the affirmative.

It may be mentioned that, according to the latest statistics of HIV/AIDS, there are approximately around 2284 people in Nagaland living with HIV/AIDS.

The WDMA conference is aimed at creating a new vision in the fight against racism and discrimination by calling upon countries to honor their obligations towards achieving a free society in the world. The Washington conference will bring together representatives from across the world to address the wide range of issues.
