I found two toilet stalls with grab bars installed, one in the departure lounge and the other in the arrival/baggage reclaim hall. There were no signs on the doors but I presumed they were Dimapur Airport’s token gesture of providing accessible convenience for people with disabilities. I tried to enter one but got stuck at the door though I was on a narrow aisle chair courtesy the airlines I had flown, so there’s no question of regular wheelchairs ever getting into the toilet stall. The grab bars were apparently just for show since they were placed beyond reach behind the seat – wonder what they think grab bars are for! Then there’s the space - there is only just about enough standing room for one person not to speak of space for wheelchairs, assistants, etc.
So, Dimapur Airport, what about passengers with disabilities? Are they supposed to hold it in and pray for the best once they’re inside your hallowed premises?
