Threats meted out to the family members of Kelei Zeliang by miscreants in his absence on 21st, Monday at his residential home at Lerie Colony, Kohima ought to be an eye opener for all. Today it is Kelei Zeliang, tomorrow it will be you. These miscreants, one of whom was carrying a concealed weapon as reported in the Media, warned the family of dire consequences while threatening to kill and damage their personal properties. This is nothing but pure Goondagiri. Trespassing into a private home with the sole intention of terrorising, harming and intimidating is not only disturbing but calls for serious attention by the Government and Civil Societies alike. One cannot sit and watch when law abiding citizens are intimidated and threatened inside their own homes.
There may be no real reason to dislike someone who seems to be doing a bit better professionally or economically in life and as Christians, it is time we self-reflect, respect each-other and start acting like real Christians. The notion that all officials attached to VIPs are corrupted and trouble-makers, is a serious misconception and needs to be wiped clean of our social perception before the image of other sincere officers are maligned and demonised by such bunch of goons. The tendency of random hatred for a bureaucrat attached to a high profile Politician like the Chief Minister is quite understandable but such tendencies must not lead anyone, no matter how sick their state of mind may be, to barge into someone’s private home to release their anger and jealousy on the family members. This is not part of Naga ethics but a desperate act of cowardice borrowed from a foreign land. The officer may be attached to the Chief Minister and may be running day to day activities as per directions of the Government which may not please all and sundry, but that does not give anyone the right to trespass into his personal property with such evil intentions. In all fairness, these miscreants needs to understand that the Officer, in his official capacity, had been carrying out his duties like any other Government officer and if issues are to be addressed, the same should be taken up with competent authority at any given point of time. Not invade the privacy of his home to terrorise his wife and children. This is a dangerous trend and every right thinking Citizen must condemn such acts before the very fabric of the Naga Society is destroyed.
