No middle way for survival: Peseyie

KOHIMA, APRIL 14 (MExN): Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker, Keyanilie Peseyie today called upon the Angami students to be sincere and determined saying that one has to either shine or perish as there is no middle way for survival. 

Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the 22nd General Conference of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) here at Chiechama village under the theme ‘Age of Excellence’, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker, Keyanilie Peseyie, while exhorting the students said that the answer to excellence is hard work and there is no substitute towards this end. The first and foremost objective of the students is to build their career with full concentration in their studies and acquire knowledge, he said.

“Therefore, it is the bounden duty of a student to be sincere, dedicated and devoted in their studies in order to achieve their goal in life”, the Speaker said, adding that now is the age of excellence and there is no place for the mediocre.

“You either shine or perish. There is no middle way for survival. So be determined and forward for accomplishing your target”, Keyanilie told the gathering of the Angami students.

He also called upon the students to be professional in all their endeavour. ‘Angami Students’ Union is a pioneering organization and many of its members have proved themselves worthy not only by words alone but by action’. 

Keyanilie  also said that the government has been rendering all assistance for empowerment of youths in the state and urged upon the students to avail these opportunities. He said that the government as a part of youth empowerment has been providing opportunities for higher studies through seats reservation on medical, engineering and other technical colleges even outside the state. 

NSF President, Pushika Awomi, who also addressed the gathering, he said that Nagas are not Indian as they are quite distinct people from Indian. He also said that there has been lots of discrimination towards the Nagas by the Indian, and cited the recently concluded Femina Miss India Contest as one instance, where clear case of discrimination was displayed by the Indian. He said that the Nagas in particular and the North Eastern in general were proud to had been represented by Naga girl in the contest, but rued that even one second was not shown properly on screen by the cameramen towards the Naga girl to exposed her talent, he said.

Pushika also urged upon the people not only to construct huge Churches, but to meet out equal treatment to the school buildings.

Besides, the inaugural function, the second day of the conference was marked by outdoor games competition, 6th Union assembly, academic session, where Neitsalie Zhasa IFS was the chief guest. On Sunday, the programme would include devotional session, cultural session, outdoor games finals tug of war and business. Nagaland Home Minister, Thenucho will grace the valedictory function as chief guest, while Rev Neikedozo Paphino, President, NCRC and ZM Sekhose, TCU President be the chief guest for devotional and cultural respectively.

Altogether about 916 delegates from 46 villages of the Angami country are taking part in the three days general conference.
