Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio termed the Naga political issue a “people’s issue” and urged students to know the history of their land, stating, “A time will come when you will have to fight.”
Addressing the AKM session in Chungtia village, Dr Rio highlighted that 23 consultative meetings have been held on the matter. He cited a significant meeting on September 12, 2024, where five resolutions were endorsed by 61 organisations.
Reading out the fourth resolution, he said it appealed for elevating the Naga political talks to the highest political level by appointing an interlocutor of political and ministerial stature who possesses the confidence and mandate of the government.
“This is not to undermine, but there is no official interlocutor at the moment in the present Naga politics talks; some retired officers are handling it. The Government of Nagaland has mentioned this many times but Government of India has not relented,” the CM stated.
He also announced that a Political Affairs Committee meeting is scheduled for January 17.
Dr Rio further discussed plans regarding reservation for backward tribes and administrative reforms, noting that “policies will be revisited with the upcoming Census to ensure maximum justice for all communities.”
